Guides at Nate’s Rogue Adventures want to make sure you know what you do and do not need to bring on one of our guided fishing trips.  We offer day fishing trips on the Deschutes, and Rogue Rivers for many species of fish. Depending on the time of year, there will be better species to target. Some of these are Steelhead, Redside Trout, Cutthroat trout, King Salmon, Coho Salmon.  We offer many fishing vacation packages in oregon that include introductory fly fishing classes, as well as trips for the expert that wants the inside scoop on the rivers we live on.  We offer Fly- fishing trips as well as trips where we use an array of techniques including using bait, plugs, trolling, back bouncing and a few other techniques that have proven productive. On both our full-day fishing and multi-day packages we supply all equipment and lures, bait, flies, rods, and reels that come along with our generous sharing of our local knowledge that will put you into FISH! You are more than welcome to bring your own gear as well.

We want you to be prepared for your memorable fishing trip in Oregon. We have provided a list of suggested items to bring to ensure your comfort and know what we bring for you.  We do provide a variety of fishing day trips in Oregon so adjust to weather as we will not need all this gear for all our trips.  Here is an outline of suggested items for your epic Oregon fishing trip!

1. Recommended clothing for day/multi day fishing trips

Before you plan for one of our epic fishing day trips to Oregon, make sure to check out what the weather will be like the days you are fishing. Your clothing will depend on the type of weather on the day of fishing. If you are going on a fishing adventure in the summers, you need to wear lightweight, quick dry, and sun protective fishing shirts and pants. Whereas in winters, you should layer, with polar fleece and a gortex or rubber shell to shed rain.  We always recommend to were rubber boots or waders so that we can make sure your feet are dry as we will need to get in and out of the boat for bathroom breaks and or to stop and fish holes from the bank for a while.  If you do not bring waders and we are floating class 4 water, wear waterproof pants. We do bring a propane heater when the weather looks like it will be cold. We do bring a back up pair of rain gear, top and bottom this is in case yours fails and we need to fill in to keep you comfortable.

2. GLOVES

Gloves are helpful to protect hands from adverse weather. There are many kinds of gloves. Some are really nice for fly fishing, and others make the holding of fishing rods comfortable for a prolonged period of time, others are ideal for handling fish. We suggest you bring something that can keep your hands warm in the winter months,

3. POLARIZED SUNGLASSES

There are ample reasons to have a pair of polarized sunglasses. The glasses provide relief from the scorching heat and protect the eyes from sharp hooks. Moreover, they help you with better visibility of fish and your line. Polarized sunglasses are worth the investment for a memorable fishing trip.

4. FIRST AID KIT

There are chances of cuts and scrapes when you go on fishing.  Our guides carry a first aid kit that will sanitize these and cover them until you get home to thoroughly and clean your wound and further protect it as it heals.  We also bring TECNU for allergic reactions to poison oak and ivey in case you come in contact with it while fishing with us.  It is always a good idea to have a  first aid kit in your backpack though.  You should have band-aids, antiseptic cream, hand sanitizer, and seasickness medication. It is uncommon to experience sea sickness on the river but it's better to have it than be miserable for hours. If you are allergic to bee’s, you will need an epi pen.  Make your guide aware of all medications you take and notify them of where it is and keep it with you during the day.  If you have health issues it is a good idea to make your guide aware so if you need help we know what we are dealing with.

5. HATS

Hats are crucial to bring when you go on fishing. Whether you’re fishing in hot weather or cold weather, hats are essential to protect your head. They protect the face from the heat and sun glare on hot days. On rainy days, they work perfectly to keep your vision clear so you can concentrate on your rod tip. Many professionals who offer fishing vacations in Oregon, also include fishing gear and other items in their packages for their customers. If you would like a recommendation or one of our hats, let us know and we will bring you one.

6. RUBBER BOOTS

When you go fishing you should always wear rubber boots of some sort as getting in and out of the boat on shore may require getting your feet wet. On our multi-day fishing trips we have a gear list that includes camp shoes and extra socks to ensure you are comfortable and dry throughout your epic fishing adventures in oregon.

7. INSECT REPELLENT AND SUNSCREEN

We recommend bringing your own insect repellent as there are many kinds and we all have a different idea of what works best. This goes for sunscreen as well. We want to make sure you are protected from both insects and the sun so we highly encourage you to bring these two items. We may have some, but most likely it will be DEET, and 70+ spf to make sure in a pinch it works WELL!
